It’s about like carrying two buckets of water. Pier frames are always carried and stored upside down. Not only is it easier to unfold the legs that way, but it ensures that water will not accumulate in the legs over the winter. As most northern homeowners know, when water freezes in pipes, pipes can be damaged. When the frame is upside down, the natural angle of the leg drains it of any water.
The carrying handles (which double as support structure for the panels later) have nicely radiused corners so they’re very easy on your fingers, and they’re just the right distance apart.
